Mesut Ozil could leave Arsenal on a temporary basis when the transfer window opens next month, according to reports.Ozil, the German midfielder, has struggled for game time since Unai Emery was appointed Arsenal’s manager, and he’s appeared for just 20 minutes total since the middle of November.Emery refused to play Ozil in last month’s Premier League defeat of Bournemouth due to him not having the ‘physicality and intensity‘ for the match, while the German missed the north London derby due to an injury which Emery appeared to know little about.1

Ozil has been backed to leave Arsenal in January

Ozil was further snubbed earlier this week for Arsenal’s Carabao Cup defeat by Tottenham, with Emery confirming ‘it was a tactical decision’.The relationship between manager and player is believed to be straining further with each passing day, and various clubs – notably Inter of Milan – have shown interest in taking Ozil off Arsenal’s books in January.However, the Gunners may have to send Ozil out on loan rather than selling him when the transfer window opens next month, as, according to The Times, they believe his contract will prevent any club submitting a suitable offer. Ozil put pen to paper on a new deal with the Gunners on February 1, extending his contract for a further three years with a reported 350,000 per week salary.The deal was signed when Arsene Wenger’s future was up in the air, and the club wanted to tie Ozil down as he had entered the final six months of his previous contract. The north Londoners had already lost Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United as the Chile forward did not want to sign a new deal, with a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan agreed between Arsenal and the Red Devils.Arsenal may have to subsidise Ozil’s wages as part of any loan deal, the report continues.
