Newcastle United set to complete club record signing of Miguel Almiron and target two other deals
Newcastle United are hoping to finalise a club-record deal for Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron on deadline day.The Paraguay international underwent a medical in Tyneside on Wednesday after the Magpies had an offer of around $27million (20.6million) accepted by the Major League Soccer club.1

The fee for Almiron, 24, will surpass the 16m Newcastle paid for Michael Owen in 2005.Almiron joined Atlanta from Argentinian side Lanus two years ago and played a key role in their MLS title success last year.He has scored 21 goals in 62 games for Atlanta, and has been capped 13 times by Paraguay. Rafa Benitez has been looking for a number ten for most of his three years at St James’ Park and the South American’s arrival would finally give him the type of player he has craved throughout that time.Almiron has already said his goodbyes at Atlanta United.He posteda host of images during his time at the MLS side on his Instagram page before travelling to the UK, with the caption: “Thanks Atlanta for all the love. I love you so much.”Almiron could be one of three signings at St James’ Park on deadline day.Benitez is also hopeful of landing Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris and Monaco defender Antonio Barreca on loan for the remainder of the season.
