To further show the changing attitudes towards hooliganism, over the past seven years there has been a banning order decrease of 43 per cent, falling 1,352 from 3,174 in 2011.However, it is not all good news, with the 492 banning orders handed out to Premier League clubs being shared amongst all 20 teams.Newcastle United top the rankings, with 16 per cent (79) of the orders being handed to Magpies supporters, while Bournemouth come in last with just three banning orders handed out. Other high ranking clubs include Manchester United and West Ham, whose London Stadium home was the scene of numerous pitch invasions and protests against David Gold and David Sullivan, the club’s owners, last season. There were 38 banning orders handed out to Chelsea supporters, though this total may be skewed by the Stamford Bridge club’s plan to send racist fans to Auschwitz for education courses rather than ban them from games. The data for all Premier League clubs can be seen below:55The data covers each of the top four divisions of English football, with one of the teams promoted to the Premier League at the end of last season ranking second for banning orders – Wolves. They topped the Championship table with 64 banning orders, while Grimsby Town (50) ranked first in League Two and Plymouth (33) had more banning orders than any other League One club.55*Data taken from gov.uk. An individual can receive multiple bans, meaning the number of bans is not equal to the number of individuals who have a ban.
