The Dane was sentenced at the beginning of November and his subsequent appeal has now been scrapped. It is understood the incident occurred after Bendtner refused to pay a 4.80 fare. He has since been ordered to pay the cab driver more than 1,000 in compensation. The former Arsenal man admitted to hitting the driver in the face but insisted it was because he felt threatened when a bottle was thrown at him and his girlfriend as they left the cab.The taxi driver, who suffered a broken jaw, was acquitted of violence but fined 350 for using his telephone while driving and not wearing his seatbelt.Bendtner will serve 50 days in prison2

Speaking after the incident, Bendtner said:I was involved in an extremely unfortunate episode.I could not imagine it would develop as it did, and of course Im extremely sad that the outcome became as unfortunate as it did.To Rosenborg fans and audiences, I regret that this has happened. Im sorry with all my heart that we are standing here today. To my dear teammates, I regret that this will steal focus in an important time. I thank you for your understanding. I have never been a fighter but I protect those I love on and off the pitch. The State Prosecutor of Copenhagen wrote on Twitter that it had also abandoned an intended counter-appeal.It said there were no longer “sufficient grounds for maintaining” it after Bendtner’s move, adding “the verdict is therefore final”.Bendtner is expected to serve the sentence at home, under “intensive surveillance” with an electronic tag.
